I am customizing a guitar with a lot of different tones, but the most important one is the jazz neck pickup – I want that mellow, chimey, bell-like jazz guitar sound, primarily for solo jazz. I am currently using a dearmond jazz pickup in the neck, and it sounds pretty darn good. I am wondering if Gibson Classic 57’s or another jazz pickup would work even better. Eager to hear thoughts and/or suggestions.

About 7 years ago i got my first guitar for Christmas because I wanted to learn how to play. It’s one of those crappy First Act acoustics from wal*mart. I have to say its albsolutely terrible and impossible to tune. Well, im actually tryin to learn how to play it so i can join my schools jazz band as an electric guitar player, and im doin really well at learnin it. The problem is that i know absolutely nothing about guitars and i have no idea what kind i should get. So anyone have any suggestions for a good electric guitar for jazz?

I’m going to college for music (technology) but I have to audition. I’m interested into classical so I’m leaning towards the jazz audition. I play guitar with a flat pic. Is this ok, or is it best to play jazz guitar fingerstyle?

I would like to play jazz guitar but unfortunately there are no jazz guitar schools in my country. Can anyone tell me a good jazz guitar ebook? I know some basis for jazz (chord substitution and scales) but I really do not know how to put all this together to make that jazz sound:(! Please help me!!! Thanks to anyone who will answer my question!
Bob S asked:
Like what scales do you need for jazz improv on guitar.
To sound like, for example, Wes Montgomery on the song Jingles.

I have been playing mainly acoustic blues, folk, and rock music for a few years. I want to get into some electric rhythm and lead jazz guitar but I do not know what kind of guitar I would be looking for. I love the sound of hollow or semi-hollow bodies the most. I know some friends who have a Sheraton but that type of guitar seems suited for an intermediate or advanced jazz player rather than a beginning one. Any advice?

What are some songs or artists you would recomend that have a strong jazz guitar? I’m the pianist in a jazz band, and our new guitar player is at a loss for rhythmical things to do while comping behind the band.

I have an acoustic guitar right now and am planning on buying an electric guitar this summer. I am planning on playing on jazz band at my college next semester and I’m wondering what guitar would I use and which could I use? Could I use both?
